There are many choices for different exotic species to hunt in North America. Texas has the most exotic species available anywhere, but you can also hunt exotics in many other states. We can help you arrange almost any species you are interested in through our trusted network of proven outfitters.
There are two types of properties for hunting exotics. Many hunters typically think all exotics are high fence hunts, and we do offer a few of those. In that case, the hunts will occur on large properties, and you will work for your animal. However, we specialize in free-range fair-chase exotic hunts on large properties. These hunts are often challenging, and various species are available. Discuss with your consultant the type of experience you are looking for, and we can recommend the right hunting property.
Hunts for exotics can take place throughout the calendar year, making for some excellent off-season hunting. Accommodations can vary from cabins to nice camps to 5-star lodges, and the food will always be great. From single hunters to large corporate groups and any weapon, we have many choices that allow us to customize these hunts for you, whether you are looking for a freezer filler, trophy class animals, or multiple species in the same trip.
Here is a sampling of a few popular exotic species you can hunt.
Aoudad, or barbary, sheep are native to North Africa and offer a real sheep hunt for a fraction of the price tag of any other North American native sheep. Our free-range hunts produce 30-34 inch rams and some larger ones.
The Axis deer, originating from India, is a beautiful animal with a rich orange coat and white spots. The meat is excellent table fare. Several free-range ranches are producing 32-plus-inch bucks. Most bucks will be in velvet from February to April, and most will be hard horned from May to October.
Oryx, also called Gemsbok, are native to Africa. The meat is excellent table fare. Often hunted in Texas and New Mexico, males weigh over 400 pounds and can have long black horns pushing 40 inches.
Blackbuck can be hunted year-round with several free-range ranches producing 20-22 inches and even larger bucks. They are native to India and Nepal. The males are stunning with long ringed horns and a beautiful black and white coat.
Elk get hunted as exotics in Texas year round and with any weapon. We have some excellent free-range trophy hunts in west Texas for bulls in the 280-370 class. Also, cow elk hunts are occasionally available.
Fallow deer originated in Europe and have large palmated antlers. You can hunt them year-round, but bucks will be hard-horned in the fall. To pursue this quarry, you will typically use blinds or spot and stalk methods on free-range properties.
Mouflon sheep originated in the Caspian region of Asia and are considered the ancestors of all domestic sheep. Their coat coloration is stunning. You can hunt them year-round, and trophy rams make a beautiful addition to your game room.
Red stags are extremely popular for their meat and large trophy antlers. You can hunt hinds and trophy bulls from 250 to 400+ inches and up on several free-range properties.
The Nilgai is a large antelope originally from India. The meat is excellent, and you can hunt them year-round on free-range properties. In addition, you can combine Nilgai hunts with saltwater fishing in south Texas for a cast and blast adventure.
There are MANY more species available. Whether it’s an African species, or any of the dozens of types of worldwide deer, oryx, goats, ibex, or sheep, we probably have an option for you. Please inquire with your hunting consultant; we can help you plan your perfect hunt for exotics.
