While we offer many mountain caribou hunts, we love finding those incredible locations throughout North America for world-class mountain caribou and putting our hunters in those camps! Mountain caribou have the second largest antlers of all the North American caribou types, with All-Time Boone and Crockett record book animals scoring 390 inches of antler. Our outfitters generally hunt resident populations of animals and manage their concessions for older age-class animals. With our extensive research and outfitter connections, we can help you find that trophy mountain caribou you have always wanted.
Imagine emerging from your spike camp tent in the morning and seeing a group of 12 caribou feeding across the ridgetop, a big herd bull with a white cape looking over his cows. Or maybe a fog bank rolls in just as you evaluate a bull through your binoculars. You make a hasty stalk towards him while you have fog for cover. Or you are on a high mountain spine ridge stalking a stone sheep when you stumble upon a monster velvet mountain caribou bedded on a hidden patch of snow, trying to avoid the bugs. You have a tag in your pocket and a decision to make. Whatever the scenario, mountain caribou live in some of North America’s most remote, rugged, and beautiful mountains. Their massive body size and baseball-bat thick antler beams make them an incredible trophy.
Mountain caribou live in British Columbia, Yukon Territories, Northwest Territories, and Alberta. They are generally found in mountainous habitats and will be at higher elevations in the summer to avoid bugs and at lower elevations in the winter. They tend to stay in smaller groups than the barren ground caribou.
Mountain caribou hunts typically utilize horses to access prime hunting areas, but backpack-only hunts are also effective. Hunts take place from mid-August to October and generally require a remote bush flight to base camp. Most caribou hunts will be for resident herds that tend not to move too far from season to season. These hunts make great combination hunts for other species like moose, mountain goats, and even stone or dall sheep. Rifle, muzzleloader, and archery hunts are all popular. Accommodations will usually be cabins for base camps and wall tents or spike camps while you are hunting. These hunts take place in Canada and come with guaranteed outfitter tags.
We offer mountain caribou hunts in British Columbia. Our locations and outfitters are carefully selected based on the quality and quantity of animals, recent population trends, and the outfitters’ track record of putting our hunters on good caribou. We are passionate caribou hunters here at Infinity Hunts and understand what it takes to get a big caribou on the ground.
Northern British Columbia produces some incredible animals, and we work with a few select outfitters in this area. These hunts are suitable for combining with other species or for just a stand-alone caribou hunt. Hunts can start in mid-August with velvet bulls, and bulls will be hard horned by early September, with stunning white manes developing shortly after, with hunting continuing through October. Bulls typically rut in September, and we see quite a few animals. Plan on horseback access as well as backpack hunts for those who are looking for that. Bulls will generally be in the 340-380 class, with 400-inch bulls taken most years. These big bulls can tip the scales at over 600 pounds and are the largest-bodied caribou in North America.
