The popularity of wolf hunts has never been higher. They have always been one of the most challenging animals to hunt in North America and are an incredibly efficient predator. In addition, many record-keeping organizations are now allowing a wolf to be substituted and count towards the North American 29, now that the Quebec-labrador caribou is no longer huntable. That has driven even more hunters towards finding a trophy wolf hunt.
Over the years, many hunters have taken wolves as incidental harvests on other hunts. And we can certainly recommend some big game hunts for moose, caribou, sheep, grizzly bear, muskox, and bison, for example, where it is quite possible to see and harvest a wolf. But there are also hunts dedicated solely to wolves, giving you the best chance to harvest a wolf. Typical hunting methods involve sitting baits, calling, and spot and stalk. Hunts typically can occur from fall through winter, but they usually will take place in colder weather and super remote locations. Access can vary from snowmachine, quads, and even boats, and accommodations can range from cabins to boat-based. To maximize success, plan on hunting for long hours in sometimes uncomfortable conditions to harvest your wolf.
We offer wolf hunts in Alaska, Alberta, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. Our locations and outfitters are carefully selected based on the density of animals and the outfitters’ track record of putting our hunters on trophy wolves. We are passionate wolf hunters here at Infinity Hunts and understand what it takes to get a trophy wolf on the ground.
We offer an authentic Alaskan experience for wolves. Using a large comfortable boat as a base camp, we will call wolves in close! Hunts can occur in October and during the wolf breeding season in February and March. We typically will have close encounters with wolves as they come charging into the call. In addition, the outfitter can run snares concurrently with your hunt to have an even better chance of bringing home a trophy. These hunts typically present close-range shot opportunities.
Alberta has good numbers of wolves, and we hunt a few different locations in the province. This hunt will utilize bait piles, calling, and spot and stalk techniques and take place when snow is on the ground. Depending on conditions, travel will be via truck, quads, or snow machines. These hunts occur from November through March. Wolf harvest usually is around 50-70% on these hunts.
We ran a hunt here in February and March 2023 with stellar results. We were 100% harvest on arctic wolf and saw many wolverine. These hunts take place using snowmobiles to locate the wintering caribou herds. You will often see thousands of caribou. And as you know, where there are caribou, there are wolves. These hunts are lodge-based and take place 200 miles above treeline in an incredibly remote area of the arctic. Wolverine and musk-ox can also be targeted on these hunts.
Arctic mainland and Nunavut island hunts typically occur from February through May. You will be hunting with native Inuit guides and traveling daily on snowmobiles, seeking wolf tracks. These hunts will utilize heated cabins and wolverine, polar bear and muskox can also be hunted.
